# Pelton turbine: Manufacturers and licensees

Three manufacturers have worked with Josef Erlach on the horizontal Pelton turbine with up to six nozzles or work with him today: Voith Hydro, Stellba Hydro and Troyer.

This page is about **System Erlach**: the horizontal Pelton turbine with up to six nozzles designed by Josef Erlach. What holds for every Pelton turbine is marked “Pelton turbine” in the heading. The difference is explained in the overview [Pelton turbine](https://www.erlach-erlach.com/en/pelton-turbine/) System Erlach.

## Voith Hydro and the Pelton turbine System Erlach: development partner and first licensee

Voith Hydro in Heidenheim became development partner in 2007 and the first licensee for the Pelton turbine System Erlach in 2011. The comparison machine for the model test in Lucerne was a vertical model turbine from Voith with six nozzles. It was turned into the horizontal and was given the housing of Erlach.

Voith developed the horizontal Pelton turbine with six nozzles further and in 2022 was the first to build it into a power plant. Voith calls the machine HP3+. In its own publication on it, Voith names the presentation by Erlach from 2012 as a source, in its own patent specifications the patents of Erlach as prior art.

## Stellba Hydro and the Pelton turbine System Erlach: licensee since 2021

Stellba Hydro in Herbrechtingen has been a licensee since 2021. The company has been building, overhauling and modernising turbines for small and medium-sized hydropower plants since 1982. With the licence, Stellba can convert existing plants to the horizontal design with up to six nozzles.

In 2022 a joint article on this appeared in the journal Wasserkraft & Energie: “Innovatives Pelton-Konzept für Neubau und Modernisierung”, with Josef Erlach and Lutz Juhrig of Stellba Hydro among the authors.

## Troyer and the Pelton turbine System Erlach: market launch in small hydropower

Troyer AG in Sterzing names its machine after the inventor: “Pelton Turbine System Erlach”. Troyer and Erlach have worked together since 2025. The first contact dates from 2006. The basis of the cooperation is the patents of Josef Erlach on the horizontal Pelton turbine with several nozzles.

Troyer has developed the design further for small hydropower, with three to six nozzles and axial inlet, and presented it in Flums in October 2025. The market launch begins in Switzerland. What Troyer plans is listed under [Pelton turbine power plants](https://www.erlach-erlach.com/en/pelton-turbine/power-plants/).
